LAUNCH & RECOVERY EQUIPMENT
With a background in aircraft carrier weapons/aviation handling, we also have experience working with NAVAIR/NAWC (Naval Air Warfare Center) ALRE systems. Whether the project involves manufacturing to build-to-print (BTP) NAWC drawings or developing a new bomb hoist, Federal Equipment Company is fully capable.
ALOFTS Variable Depth Sonar
The ALOFT Variable Depth Sonar is engineered to deliver mission-ready performance in the most demanding maritime environments, giving the U.S. fleet a dependable edge beneath the surface. Its dense towed body and stainless steel strongback provide exceptional stability and structural integrity, standing up to the punishing conditions of open-ocean operations while sustaining accurate detection at depth. Built for high-speed tow at 30-plus knots, the system keeps pace with fleet operations without sacrificing performance, and its reliable recovery in high sea states means your crews can bring the array home safely when the weather turns against them. Behind this durable, MIL-SPEC-grade hardware stands the full weight of Fairbanks Morse Defense as a long-term partner. Through Long Term Overhaul Support, expert Engineering Support, Sole-Source availability under ALOFTS, and proactive Obsolescence Management, we ensure the system remains supportable, reliable, and ready for decades of service—reducing downtime, extending system longevity, and keeping your fleet operational around the clock.
MAPS Variable Depth Sonar
The MAPS Variable Depth Sonar equips the U.S. fleet with dependable subsurface detection while integrating seamlessly into existing platforms. Its 240-meter faired tow cable and custom towed body are engineered specifically to optimize acoustic performance, delivering the clear, reliable signal your crews need to stay mission ready. Every element of the design serves operational efficiency: a lightweight aluminum drum reduces topside weight, the 2.5-meter freeboard and flat deck configuration simplify handling and deployment, and the compact footprint requires minimal ship alterations—so you can field the system faster, with less disruption and lower installation cost.
Through long-term service support, responsive engineering assistance, sole-source availability under MAPS, and proactive obsolescence management, we keep the system supportable, compliant, and combat-ready for the long haul—minimizing downtime and extending service life across the entire lifecycle.
Mine Counter- measures
The CSTRS (Carriage, Stream, Tow, and Recovery System) for the MH-60 gives the U.S. Navy a proven, MIL-SPEC-compliant solution that strengthens organic airborne mine countermeasure capability while keeping crews mission ready. Its lightweight carbon fiber drum, automated levelwind, and precision gear box deliver dependable stream, tow, and recovery in an extremely lightweight package that reduces airframe burden without compromising performance. As the sole-source provider under the MH-60, FMD offers dedicated Engineering Support and proactive Obsolescence Management, ensuring reliable operation and lasting supportability for years of service.
RAST SYSTEMS
To supplement our other helicopter related products (e.g., heliports, helo hangar doors, etc.), FEC offers a full line of RAST equipment and replacement parts utilizing an extensive database of build-to-print OEM drawings. With substantial in-house manufacturing capability and a wide-ranging knowledge of shipboard equipment, FEC can expedite your parts order with a quick turn-around so ship’s force operators minimize downtime on their critical systems.
JBD Manifolds
On aircraft carriers, one of the more distinguishable features on the flight deck is the catapult system’s JBD. JBDs are deployed during flight operations while launching aircraft from the catapults. The JBD panels are raised and lowered to provide protection to adjacent aircraft and flight deck personnel from jet blast as taxing aircraft await the pending catapult launch. In order to sustain the significant heat generated by the jet blast, the JBDs are outfitted with cooling modules and manifolds that circulate sea water pumped up from below decks. FEC is a key contributor to aircraft launch and recovery equipment (ALRE) as one of only a couple qualified suppliers to manufacture the JBD Manifolds.
Aviation Ground Support Equipment
Our expertise extends to other branches of the military, having furnished common ground support equipment (GSE) for the US Army and Air Force. Aviation GSE is utilized to assist in the transport, maintenance and service of aircraft in between flights. FEC has manufactured and tested jet engine trailers and helicopter engine maintenance stands consisting of various steel and aluminum weldment assemblies in accordance with the stringent requirements necessary for handling flight critical engines/components.
Commercial Solutions
In addition to the defense industry, Fairbanks Morse Defense also works with the commercial industry. Our commercial customers can include municipal and nuclear power plants, hospitals, universities, and international stationary power applications.
